In 2000, Deus Ex featured a strange piece of lore explaining why New York's Twin Towers were missing from the game's skyline. The developers had removed them because of technical limitations, then wrote them out of the game's world by saying they had been destroyed in an attack. What makes it eerie is that the game was released just one year before a real-world event made that fictional detail disturbingly relevant.
